Core message

Livestock products are vital for fulfilling nutrition requirements of the majority of the world’s population and particularly in LMICs. However, livestock emissions need to be reduced if climate change targets are to be reached. The session will describe different approaches to reducing emissions in HICs and LMICs. Emerging technologies will be described together with their limitations. Livestock value chain actors will share good practices in reducing emissions whilst improving the health of the land and livestock and adapting to climate change. The need for an enabling policy environment, incentives and effective reporting for supporting a just transition to more sustainable livestock production systems will be discussed, and examples provided. The session will raise a call for greater investment in livestock system climate change adaptation measures as well as in climate mitigation.
